Provenance is a free, open-source emulator for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, bringing classic games from more than 50 systems into Apple’s ecosystem. Its broad support spans consoles and computers from Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and other makers, including systems such as the SNES, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, Dreamcast, and PlayStation 2. The app combines emulation with features designed for modern devices: iCloud save syncing, controller support, haptic feedback, Siri shortcuts, Spotlight search, and native tvOS integration.
On Apple TV, TopShelf displays recently played games, while compatible controllers offer alternatives to the Siri Remote. Provenance also organizes collections with automatically sourced artwork, screenshots, release details, ratings, and manuals, and lets users customize game information and emulation settings. A catalog of community-created controller skins adds further personalization.
The project is actively developed, with its code available for review and contribution on GitHub. Core functionality is free when the app is sideloaded or built from source; App Store versions offer optional Provenance Plus features
