About PSPRS
PSPRS, or the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System, was established in 1968 to provide a comprehensive retirement program for public safety personnel in Arizona. This includes firefighters, police officers, and other public safety professionals. Additionally, separate plans were created for elected officials and corrections officers.
PSPRS is a qualified governmental pension plan and offers defined benefit plans, where retirement benefits are determined based on salary and years of service. They also administer a defined contribution plan based on contributions and investment earnings. In addition to retirement benefits, PSPRS also administers the Public Safety Cancer Insurance Policy Program.
With nearly 60,000 active members, retirees, and beneficiaries, PSPRS serves multiple employers and maintains separate accounts for each participating employer. The system is governed by a Board of Trustees and the investment portfolio is managed by professionals with expertise in economics and finance. PSPRS takes pride in providing excellent service to Arizona's public safety employees and encourages public involvement through meetings and record reviews.
