De Nederlandse Vereniging voor Psychiatrie (NVvP) is een ledenvereniging van, voor en door psychiaters. Bijna 4.000 psychiaters en psychiaters in opleiding zijn lid van de vereniging. De vereniging stelt zich ten doel “de bevordering van de psychiatrie in de breedste zin, de behartiging van de wetenschappelijke en beroepsmatige belangen van psychiaters, de bevordering en stimulering van opleiding en scholing en de bevordering en bewaking van de kwaliteit van de psychiatrie” (Statuten 2006). Vertaald in een bondige missie zet de NVvP zich in voor een goede psychiatrische patiëntenzorg in Nederland. Dit alles in de eerste plaats voor de patiënt en zijn of haar naastbetrokkenen.
