Societas Philologa Polonorum

The Polish Philological Association, also known as Societas Philologa Polonorum, is a scholarly and educational association founded in Lwów in 1893 by Professor Ludwik Ćwikliński. Based in Wrocław, it brings together around 500 teachers of Latin and Ancient Greek, researchers, and enthusiasts of classical culture, with branches in twelve Polish cities. Its mission is to foster knowledge of Greco-Roman antiquity and classical culture, tracing their influence from ancient times to the present.

The Association works across research, teaching, and public outreach. Its scholarly activities include research projects, academic publications such as the journal Eos, and scientific conferences. To support classical-language education, it advocates for Latin and Greek in schools and offers teacher conferences, workshops, courses, and summer schools. It also organises the National Latin Language Olympiad and other competitions, shares commentary through publications and media appearances, and communicates with the public through social media. The Association provides information about membership, regional branches, conferences, funded projects, and opportunities to study classical languages.
