The Polish Carbon Society (Polskie Towarzystwo Węglowe, PTW) is a nationwide, non-profit scientific association that brings together people involved in research on carbon and works in the public interest. Founded in 1988 as the Polish Graphite Society and officially registered in 1989, it adopted its current name in 2006 to reflect a broader focus than graphite alone.
PTW promotes scientific and technological advances in carbon, supports the development of Poland’s carbon materials industry, and encourages research and development projects in cooperation with businesses. It also shares knowledge about Polish research and technology achievements. Its activities include organizing lectures, symposia, discussions, and conferences, including international events and the biennial Torunian Carbon Symposium. The society has participated as a full member in the European Carbon Association since 2000, connecting it with national carbon research groups across Europe.
PTW offers a professional community for researchers and industry participants through membership, collaborative projects, and scientific events. Its work links academic research with industrial cooperation and the exchange of knowledge in carbon science and technology.
