Pubblica Assistenza Ozzano San Lazzaro (PAOL) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization serving the communities of Ozzano and San Lazzaro in the Bologna area. Founded in 1987, it works with volunteers, residents, public bodies and institutions to strengthen local solidarity and support people in need.

Its services include emergency medical response through Italy’s 118 system, provided in agreement with the Bologna Local Health Authority, as well as social services and community transport. The association also contributes to civil protection, taking part in exercises with the regional agency responsible for territorial safety and emergency preparedness. Training is another important part of its work: PAOL offers courses and educational activities, alongside community events that encourage participation and awareness.

People can support the association by volunteering, donating, becoming a sustaining member or allocating their five-per-thousand tax contribution. Donations help fund emergency vehicles, equipment, training and events. In 2025, PAOL reported more than 37,000 volunteer hours, 2,369 people assisted through emergency response and 3,345 social service assignments, reflecting its broad commitment to the local community.
