About Public Environmental Data Partners
Public Environmental Data Partners (PEDP) is a coalition founded in 2024 to preserve, protect, and expand public access to federal environmental data and tools. The organization believes accessible data supports environmental and community health, informed decision-making, and democracy. Its work brings together researchers, data scientists, storytellers, and others across the environmental field.
PEDP archives at-risk datasets and tools, helping keep vital information available to the public. It also develops systems to identify and monitor risks to environmental data infrastructure. When tools are no longer supported by federal agencies, PEDP rebuilds them, improves their usability, and develops new resources in response to community feedback and engagement.
Alongside preservation and tool development, PEDP coordinates policy recommendations and legislative strategies to protect data infrastructure. It also shares multimedia stories to raise awareness of related issues across the United States. The coalition offers an archive of preserved datasets, open-source development projects, and opportunities to contribute or get involved. Its work includes more than 300 archived datasets and over 20 active projects.
