The Institute of Public Health (IPH) is a renowned institution that informs public policy to promote healthier populations in Ireland and Northern Ireland. With a focus on health equity and reducing health inequalities, IPH supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which emphasizes good health and wellbeing. Celebrating 25 years of dedication, the Institute was established prior to the Good Friday/Belfast Agreement in 1998 to provide guidance on public health policy to the relevant Departments of Health and Chief Medical Officers in both jurisdictions.
IPH prioritizes partnership working and collaborates with local, national, and global health partners. It operates with joint funding from the Departments of Health in Ireland and Northern Ireland. IPH's teams in Dublin and Belfast work in various areas such as research, evidence review, partnership working, policy analysis and evaluation, and specialist training and public communications.
The Institute is guided by a Board of Directors, led by Chair Professor Bernie Hannigan and Deputy Chair Martin Higgins. Suzanne Costello serves as the Chief Executive, overseeing the strategic direction of the Institute. With its dedicated teams and collaborations, IPH is committed to improving public health for Ireland and Northern Ireland
