About Pūhoro STEMM
Pūhoro STEMM is a brand that focuses on accelerating Māori student achievement in preparation for university study and future employment in New Zealand. Their mission is to develop a community of Māori technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, innovators, and thought-pioneers who will excel in high-value careers and drive cutting-edge future innovation. Through their Pūhoro STEM Academy program, they offer a range of immersive experiences and opportunities for Māori rangatahi (young people) to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
By learning through doing and embracing the concept of wayfinding, Pūhoro empowers rangatahi to bridge both traditional knowledge and modern technology. Launched in 2016, Pūhoro was established to address the low engagement of Māori in STEM-related career pathways, aiming to increase Māori representation in the science and technology industries of New Zealand. They work closely with national partners, such as the Ministry of Education, to create a STEM workforce for an innovation-focused future society.
