About Pukllay
Pukllay is a cultural project dedicated to sharing the traditions, people, and heritage of Andahuaylas, Apurímac, with audiences in Peru and around the world. Created by Andahuaylinos living away from their hometown, the project promotes Pukllay, described as Peru’s Carnaval Originario, and the national carnival gathering held in Andahuaylas. The event takes place in March and brings together more than 200 national and international delegations through music, dance, traditional costumes, and lively parades.
Pukllay’s website offers a gallery of photographs and 4K videos documenting carnival activities, performers, and local culture. Its collections feature rural, national, and international carnival groups, traditional dress, comparsas, dancers, children’s performances, and events such as Watukanakuy and the pasacalle. The project notes that its media is protected by copyright and is intended for educational use; commercial use requires permission.
Alongside event coverage, Pukllay introduces its team and the history of the gathering, including its creator, writer and poet Isaac Vivanco Tarco.
