About Puma Programme

The Puma Programme, also known as PUMA-Sénégal, is dedicated to improving the living conditions of communities through three key components: Connectivity, Sustainable Development, and Border Security. By focusing on these areas, PUMA aims to enhance the overall well-being of the population and promote economic growth. Under the Connectivity component, PUMA works to improve road, river, maritime, telephone, and digital connectivity in border areas, ensuring better access for the local population.

On the other hand, the Sustainable Development component focuses on the creation of infrastructures, basic social amenities, and income-generating activities to support long-term development. Additionally, PUMA prioritizes Border Security to ensure the safety and protection of both the border zones and the people living there. This component involves close collaboration with local stakeholders and the deployment of security infrastructure.

The PUMA Programme's reach extends to ten administrative regions in Senegal: Fatick, Kaffrine, Kaolack, Kédougou, Kolda, Matam, Saint-Louis, Sédhiou, Tambacounda, and Ziguinchor. By strategically targeting these regions, PUMA aims to address specific challenges faced by communities along the Sénégal's borders. Since its inception, the PUMA Programme has made significant progress.

This includes the creation of over 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, the construction of essential infrastructure such as healthcare facilities and educational institutions, and the improvement of access to basic services for border communities. Overall, PUMA seeks to achieve a balanced and sustainable development model that benefits all stakeholders involved
