About pyrgus.de
Pyrgus. de is a dedicated website founded by Wolfgang Wagner, focusing on the ecology of European butterflies and grasshoppers. The platform provides valuable insights into the threats and conservation of these vital species.
It features a well-structured navigation menu that allows users to explore topics related to biodiversity, habitat, and literature on entomology. The core of the site is the "Artportraits" section, which offers detailed profiles of 1,691 butterfly species from 27 families, complemented by extensive photographic documentation totaling over 60,000 images. Additionally, 489 grasshopper species are accessible for those interested in Orthoptera.
The website aims to foster awareness and appreciation for the beauty of these insects while highlighting the urgent need for their protection. Although it does not serve as a definitive identification guide, Pyrgus. de encourages engagement from both entomologists and casual nature enthusiasts.
By sharing verified observations and promoting ecological understanding, the site aspires to contribute to the conservation and enjoyment of Europe's delicate ecosystems
