About QED Battery Corp
QED Battery Corp. is a Canadian company developing and commercializing non-lithium battery technology. Its work began as a self-funded research project and has progressed through collaborations with Lambton College, Green Centre Canada, and Ontario Tech University, with support from public research and innovation programs. The company aims to offer energy storage with high charge density, rapid charging, long service life, reliable operation, and more economical, environmentally sustainable materials.
QED’s technology is a hybrid potassium-ion battery that uses common anode and cathode materials in an alkaline environment, enhanced with nanomaterials to improve material utilization and charging performance. The approach is intended to address limitations associated with lithium-ion batteries and use abundant materials from a conflict-free supply chain. QED is refining its separator and conducting product-development and testing work to assess performance and commercial viability. The company reports that its technology has reached Technology Readiness Level 6, with plans for prismatic cell production in Q4 2026 and pre-market field testing in Q4 2027.
