QMS (Quality Meat Scotland) is dedicated to promoting and supporting Scotland's iconic red meat industry. As a vital levy body, QMS has not increased its levy since 2010, but is now implementing a new financial model to ensure the sustainability of its services amid growing global competition and rising costs. In response to industry feedback, QMS will engage stakeholders through workshops and meetings to discuss their five-year strategy, which emphasizes productivity, profitability, and international market development.
Key initiatives include marketing and promoting Scottish red meat, enhancing meat quality through industry development, and supporting the red meat supply chain from farm to fork. Approximately 75% of QMS's levy income is allocated to marketing efforts, with a proven track record of generating significant returns for the industry. In light of recent consultations, an inflation-adjusted levy increase will commence in April 2024, marking an essential step in securing the future of Scotland's premium red meat sector.
QMS continues to actively collaborate with farmers and processors to navigate the industry's evolving landscape
