About Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency
Introducing The Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency, a unique and empowering program for LGBTQ2+ visual artists in Canada. This two-week long residency, held in Toronto Island's beautiful Artscape Gibraltar Point, offers selected artists studio space, travel support, and free room and board. But it's not just about the physical space. Residents also receive mentoring and studio visits from esteemed artists and curators, providing valuable guidance and inspiration.
What sets this residency apart is its focus on intergenerational engagement and community building. By exploring LGBTQ2+ art history and practice, the program aims to foster communication and collaboration across generational lines. It's a vision and experience of sustainability through resource sharing, shared practice, art career management training, and community building.
The residency also features a range of activities for residents, including guest visits, open studios, and workshops by CARFAC Ontario—a professional artists association advocating for the rights and fair compensation of artists.
