Quinta Grande is a historic rural estate in the Sorraia Valley, about 70 kilometres from Lisbon, with more than a century of agricultural heritage. Founded in 1892 by agronomist Caetano da Silva Luz, the property is now managed by the fourth generation, which continues its founding values while adapting its approach to the needs of the land. Visitors can stay in a renovated former farm manager’s house, now local accommodation with five bedrooms, spacious shared areas and a communal kitchen. The estate also invites guests to explore the Ribatejo heathland on foot, by mountain bike or gravel bike. Routes pass through cork oak woodland, wetlands, peatlands and native plant habitats, with wildlife observation shelters and recreational fishing available. Quinta Grande’s forestry combines cork and pine production with natural regeneration and biodiversity conservation, supported by sustainable management, silvopastoral practices and FSC certification. Its Mertolenga cattle preserve a long-standing connection between farming, livestock and the surrounding landscape.
