The Council of State of the Netherlands is an independent public institution and one of the country’s High Councils of State. It advises the government and parliament on legislation and public administration, and serves as the highest general administrative court in the Netherlands. Its work is carried out through two divisions: the Advisory Division reviews draft bills and general administrative orders, while the Administrative Jurisdiction Division assesses whether public authorities have correctly applied the law when making decisions.
The Council also carries out budgetary oversight and reviews matters related to the Climate Act.
