About Maritime Radio Historical Society
Maritime Radio Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich traditions of maritime radio telegraphy. Founded in 1999, the society was born out of a deep appreciation for the historical significance of Morse code in commercial maritime communication. Unable to let this tradition fade into obscurity, the society's founders, Tom Horsfall and Richard Dillman, embarked on a mission to restore and repair the KPH transmit and receive sites in Bolinas and Point Reyes.
To their amazement, they discovered that the sites were not in ruins but rather a well-preserved radio time capsule. The receivers were still functioning, keeping a vigilant watch over the Morse calling channels. Inspired by this discovery, the Maritime Radio Historical Society was born.
The society offers a range of services and resources, including events, stations, operations, and videos. They also delve into radio archaeology, uncovering fascinating stories and recording the history of coast stations. Furthermore, they provide a newsletter to keep enthusiasts informed about their activities.
Join the Maritime Radio Historical Society in their mission to honor and preserve the legacy of maritime radio telegraphy
