Radio Workshop is an African youth media organization that uses radio and podcasts to help young people share stories, inform their communities, and address issues that matter to them. Founded in 2006 as the Children’s Radio Foundation, it has trained more than 5,000 youth reporters through partnerships with over 100 radio stations in 10 African countries. Its programs have reached up to 9 million listeners weekly and use 21 broadcast languages.
The organization provides training, production tools, mentoring, resources, and production guides, helping young people develop reporting and audio-production skills. Youth create and broadcast radio shows and podcasts, combining personal narratives with fact-based information to encourage dialogue and respond to local concerns. Radio Workshop also connects participants with opportunities to learn and advance, while supporting community partners and youth project leaders.
Its reporting explores mental health, HIV and AIDS, LGBTQI+ rights, violence and safety, climate change, education and opportunity, and adolescent health.
