Ralphs is an American supermarket chain operating in Southern California and the largest subsidiary of Cincinnati-based Kroger. It is the oldest supermarket chain west of the Mississippi River. The chain was founded in 1873 in Los Angeles by George Albert Ralphs, a master bricklayer who turned to the grocery business after losing his arm in a hunting accident, opening his first store — Ralphs & Francis — at Fifth and Hill in downtown Los Angeles.

The company was incorporated as Ralphs Grocery Co. in 1909 and was among the first supermarkets to introduce laser-scanning checkouts west of the Mississippi River, in 1974. Family owned until 1968, the company passed through several major mergers — including Food 4 Less in 1994 and Fred Meyer in 1997 — before becoming a division of Kroger in 1998 when Kroger acquired Fred Meyer.

Today, Ralphs operates across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties under the slogan Fresh for Everyone, offering grocery, pharmacy, fuel, and loyalty rewards through its Kroger family of services
