About Rania Matar
Rania Matar is a Lebanese/Palestinian/American documentary, portrait, and fine art photographer. Her work focuses on women in the US and the Middle East, exploring issues of personal and collective identity. With a cultural background and cross-cultural experience, Matar's photographs of female adolescence and womanhood delve into notions of identity and individuality.
Her photographs have been widely published and exhibited in museums worldwide, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Carnegie Museum of Art. She has received numerous grants, awards, and fellowships, including the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018. Matar has published four books and is currently an associate professor of photography at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
