Rat Rescue Italia ODV is an Italian volunteer-run, registered nonprofit association dedicated to rescuing domestic rats and promoting responsible care. Founded in 2013, the organization began by taking in a group of unwanted rats and has since worked to help abandoned pets and rats whose owners can no longer care for them find loving, permanent homes. Its adoption resources explain the steps involved, introduce rats currently seeking homes, and encourage prospective adopters to understand their needs before making a commitment.

The association also provides practical information about keeping rats, including guidance on housing, diet, health, safety, enrichment, play, socialization and introductions. Its educational articles and infographics aim to improve understanding of rat behavior and welfare and help prevent abandonment by supporting informed choices. Rat Rescue Italia shares updates through social media and publishes The Rat Press, its online magazine. Supporters can help through volunteering, fostering, membership and donations, including Italy’s five-per-thousand tax contribution. The organization emphasizes that rats are social animals and should not be kept alone.
