Rattlestick Theater is a New York theater organization that has provided an artistic home for provocative, daring theater artists since 1994. Its mission is to produce ambitious plays that inspire empathy, prompt conversation, and contribute to positive social change. Led by Artistic Director Will Davis, the theater supports work that responds to the complexities of contemporary culture, with a focus on directing resources toward the creation of new theatrical work.
Rattlestick’s offerings include theatrical productions and a range of artist-development programs. These include the Terrence McNally New Works Incubator, the Van Lier New Voices Fellowship, a Directing Fellowship, and the Playwright in Residence program. Its artistic programming also features the Waverly Performance Studio and Global Forms, alongside a production archive. Through these initiatives, Rattlestick creates opportunities for artists and audiences to engage with new plays and ideas.
The theater’s home at 224 Waverly Place in Manhattan’s West Village is being renamed the Terrence McNally Theater, in honor of the late Tony Award-winning playwright.
