Ray Hunt

Ray Hunt was a pioneering horse trainer whose innovative techniques transformed horse training into a compassionate and understanding practice. Born in 1929 in Mountain Home, Idaho, Ray's journey began on a family farm, where he cultivated a deep connection with horses from a young age. After years of working as a buckaroo in Oregon and Nevada, he sought mentorship from renowned trainer Tom Dorrance. Ray became a proponent of what would later be known as “natural horsemanship,” emphasizing a bond of trust and respect rather than dominance.

Through his widely attended clinics, Ray demonstrated remarkable results, successfully training untouched colts with minimal intervention and a focus on the horse's mental well-being. Despite facing skepticism and criticism, his dedication to the horse always remained paramount. Recognized for his contributions to the equestrian community, Ray received several accolades, including the Top Hand Award and induction into the California Reined Cow Horse Hall of Fame.
