About Royal Canadian Geographical Society
The Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS), established in 1929, is dedicated to enhancing the understanding of Canada's geography among its citizens and the global community. Celebrated for its iconic publication, Canadian Geographic magazine, the RCGS supports a variety of geographical expeditions and offers grants and scholarships for innovative research in the field. The organization aims to equip Canadians with knowledge about their country's diverse landscapes and the socio-environmental changes impacting communities.
In addition to its publishing and funding programs, the RCGS operates Can Geo Education, one of Canada’s largest geographic education initiatives, providing free resources to over 27,000 educators nationwide. This program fosters a love for learning and ensures that students receive crucial geographical insights about their country, enhancing their awareness of local and national issues. As a non-profit driven largely by donations, the RCGS is staffed by volunteers, including its Board of Governors, demonstrating a strong commitment to geographical literacy and exploration in Canada
