REACTT (Reliable Advanced Diagnostics and Control Tools for Increased Lifetime of Solid Oxide Cell Technology) is a European research project focused on improving the reliability and durability of solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) and reversible solid oxide cell (rSOC) systems. Its work addresses the monitoring and understanding of degradation in cell stacks and systems, particularly under high-current and transient operating conditions that can reduce performance.
The project develops a Monitoring, Diagnostic, Prognostic and Control Tool (MDPC), combining hardware and software to supervise and analyze reversible electrolyser systems. The aim is to help mitigate performance losses, increase system reliability and extend stack lifetime. REACTT also explores electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and innovative stack perturbation methods.
The project brings together six research organizations—Institut Jožef Stefan, UNISA, CEA, VTT, EPFL and ENEA—and three industry partners: SP, Bitron and AVL List. Coordinated by Institut Jožef Stefan, REACTT ran from January 2021 to December 2023. It received funding from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking, now the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, with support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research.
