About Sludge
Sludge is an independent and nonprofit news outlet that focuses on investigative journalism surrounding lobbying and money in politics. Our mission is to uncover the ways in which special interests influence policy-making and expose the deep-rooted connections between corporate networks and government. Through our in-depth reporting, we shed light on how concentrated economic powers shape public policy and more.
As a project of the Participatory Politics Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we have been committed to providing reliable and unbiased news since our establishment in 2009. Sludge is proud to be a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) and one of the original members of The Brick House Cooperative, a collective of global publications. We also participate in the OptOut network of independent news outlets.
Our team of dedicated journalists, including Executive Director David Moore and journalist Donald Shaw, work tirelessly to bring you the most accurate and impactful stories. Funding for Sludge comes from a variety of sources, including grants, monthly reader donations, and support from nonprofit organizations. We value transparency and encourage you to explore our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Comment Policy.
