Rede Contra Fogo

Rede Contra Fogo is a nonprofit association founded in 2017 in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, working to conserve the Cerrado from the Chapada dos Veadeiros. Its volunteer brigadistas help prevent and combat wildfires, support regional brigades, and share environmental education with schools and local communities. The organization’s work includes creating and maintaining firebreaks with residents and landowners before the dry season, leading conversations and workshops, and providing educational materials such as activity books and booklets.

Rede Contra Fogo also trains volunteer firefighters and supports environmental projects led by its brigadistas. Since its beginnings as a community WhatsApp group, it has responded to more than 300 incidents and trained over 200 brigadistas through six training courses. Individuals can contribute through monthly Catarse subscriptions, one-time donations, volunteer participation, or purchases from the organization’s shop, with proceeds supporting brigade activities and education.

Businesses can partner through sponsorships, tourism contributions, and point-of-sale donations. The association also publishes financial and activity information and is part of Brazil’s National Network of Volunteer Brigades
