Red Sun Classical Fencing is a traditional Italian fencing school, or Sala di Armi, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and serving students across the state. A member sala of the Classical Fencing Society, it teaches classical fencing as a practical martial art rooted in the methods and lineage of historic fencing masters. The school focuses especially on the Italian dueling weapons of the 18th and 19th centuries: the spada, or sword, and the sciabola, or sabre.
Students begin with classical Italian foil, which is used to teach the techniques and principles of the discipline, and can continue into practical combat training and additional weapons offered by the school. Its curriculum draws on Maestro William Gaugler’s The Science of Fencing and the Classical Fencing Society’s teaching system. Unlike sport fencing clubs centered on points, rankings, and competition, Red Sun emphasizes understanding systems of defense and the precise, efficient use of weapons.
