REFUGE ECOLOGY

Refuge Ecology is a Christchurch-based small business providing conservation contracting services on Banks Peninsula and the Port Hills, with a secondary base in Western Valley, Little River. Formed from a desire to contribute positively to biodiversity protection, the company works alongside private landowners and public agencies. Its work focuses on targeting pest plants and herbivorous animals that threaten vulnerable native species, as well as predator species that can be abundant in refuge habitats.

The business describes refuges as places where plant and animal species that were once more widespread can find protection. Forest remnants and regenerating forest can support threatened native species and greater biodiversity, but these areas remain vulnerable to ecological pressures. Refuge Ecology aims to help native species thrive through conservation work guided by best practice, affordability, and compliance with current regulations. The company’s website includes sections on its services, health and safety, projects, and the Emissions Trading Scheme, though the supplied information does not detail specific projects or scheme services.
