Refugio Animal de Costa Rica is a dedicated wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organization located just five minutes from downtown San Jose, Santa Ana. Since 2010, the shelter has received up to 1,500 wildlife cases annually, ranging from animals found in homes to those injured by electric lines. The team at Refugio provides tailored veterinary care and safe relocation services to ensure the animals’ well-being.

The shelter emphasizes volunteer involvement, offering a welcoming volunteer house called Ewa, which provides accommodation and meals. Volunteers play a crucial role in the care and treatment of the animals. Many of the rescued creatures are rehabilitated and returned to the wild, while those unable to survive in nature are cared for as part of educational initiatives.

Through guided tours, Refugio aims to educate the public about wildlife conservation and the importance of respecting nature. Visitors are welcome daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm, supporting the mission to foster a greater understanding of wildlife preservation.
