The Society for Research into the Imperial Chamber Court is a nonprofit organization based in Wetzlar, Germany, dedicated to the history of the Reichskammergericht, one of the highest courts of the Holy Roman Empire. Founded in 1495, the court helped resolve disputes through judicial proceedings rather than violence. The Society studies its work and peacekeeping role, as well as other early modern European high courts, to illuminate the development of the modern rule of law.
Its activities include a research center housed in the museum building, which examines the court’s legal foundations, procedures, influence, and the lives of judges and lawyers. The center also coordinates scholarship and hosts international academic colloquia. The Society operates the Reichskammergericht Museum, where visitors can explore historical exhibits and original documents. Admission is offered on a “pay what you want” basis. The organization also publishes a series of works, shares research and event news, and welcomes support through membership and donations.
