The REI Cooperative Action Fund is a community-driven 501(c)(3) public charity that supports nonprofits working to make the outdoors more accessible and inclusive for everyone. It is grounded in the belief that time outside is fundamental to people’s health and well-being, and aims to help more people experience nature’s benefits. Through grants, the Fund backs organizations creating opportunities to connect people with the outdoors, welcoming outdoor spaces, and initiatives that center health.

The Fund says most grant partners receive unrestricted, multi-year grants. It also offers a database of current and past grantees, shares grantee stories, and invites supporters to recommend organizations.
Launched in October 2021, the Fund reports receiving about $4. 9 million in donations, directing approximately $39 million in grantmaking, and supporting more than 550 grantees. Individuals can contribute online or by mail to help sustain nonprofit work across the country and foster greater access, connection, and belonging outdoors
