Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER) is a remarkable brand that strives to restore and conserve ecologically significant peat forest areas on Indonesia's Kampar Peninsula. This collaborative project brings together private and public sector groups, working hand-in-hand to protect and restore these vital ecosystems.

Established in 2013 by the APRIL Group, RER is located on Sumatra's eastern coastline and covers an impressive 150,693 hectares of forest across two areas. One area spans 130,095 hectares at the heart of a 344,573-hectare forest block on the Kampar Peninsula, while the other covers 20,599 hectares on the nearby Padang Island. In fact, the restoration area on the Kampar Peninsula is twice the size of Singapore!

Initially focused on safeguarding and restoring 20,000 hectares of peat forest, RER expanded its program to encompass 150,000 hectares following APRIL's announcement at the COP 21 in Paris. To support and secure long-term conservation and restoration efforts over ten years, APRIL dedicated a whopping US$100 million.

Now, with five concessions operating under 60-year ecosystem restoration licenses from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, RER continues to make positive strides in preserving the Kampar Peninsula's biodiversity. Its landscape approach tackles critical aspects such as hydrological restoration, fire prevention, and canal blocking. Moreover, RER actively engages with the community through partnerships, farming initiatives, fishing cooperation, and forest honey programs.
