Renko

Renko / Rakar / Jekovec / Pezdirc is a personal genealogy project focused on researching family history, ancestry, and wider kinship connections. Its research follows family lines from regions of Slovenia and Croatia, including Gorenjska, Bela krajina, Gorski kotar, Zagorje, Zagreb, and Međimurje. The project brings together verified information from civil registers and other historical sources, with its main, regularly updated family tree available online. It also shares research through genealogy platforms such as Geneanet, MyHeritage, Ancestry, FamilySearch, Geni, and WikiTree.

Alongside documentary research, the project uses DNA testing to investigate distant relatives, explore ancestral origins, and support findings from written records. Its community contributions include online tools developed for the Slovene Genealogical Society: the Slovene Genealogical Index and Slovene Genetic Atlas. It also helped establish the Hrvatski rodoslovni indeks for the Croatian genealogical society. These open-source resources are freely available. The project’s GED Merge tool helps genealogists selectively combine GEDCOM family-tree files and import matching data, supporting collaboration and the sharing of family-history discoveries.
