Rent-A-Bug Tasmania

Rent-A-Bug Tasmania is a low-cost car hire business established nearly 25 years ago, serving travellers across northern Tasmania. Located at East Devonport, about 100 metres from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal, it offers convenient access for passengers arriving by ferry. The company’s fleet has evolved from classic Volkswagen Beetles and now mainly comprises small, economical Toyota Yaris and Kia Rio vehicles, which customers call “bugs.” It also offers pre-loved backpacker vehicles and classic Mercedes cars.

Rent-A-Bug focuses on straightforward, no-frills rentals, with a simple fee structure and no extra charge for additional drivers. It welcomes drivers under 21, subject to its rental terms. Vehicles are described as well-maintained, insured, roadworthy, and covered by year-round roadside assistance. Cars are supplied with a full tank and must be returned full; pets and smoking are not permitted. A refundable damage bond and optional daily excess reduction fee apply, with different excess terms for drivers under 25. The company serves Devonport, Launceston, Ulverstone, Wynyard, and Burnie.
