About RePan
RePan is a brand that specializes in refurbishing and recoating pans, providing them with a new lease on life. Their expert specialists apply multiple layers of coating adhering to the standard used in the gastronomy industry. In addition, RePan ensures that the pans have flat bottoms, securely attached handles, new finishes for aluminum surfaces, and cleaned stainless steel surfaces.
The brand offers their services to various kitchen utensils, including pans, pots, baking sheets, and grill utensils. Regardless of the manufacturer or make, RePan can recoat them, except for copper and cast iron pans, which do not require coating. However, the pan must be in good condition, apart from the coating.
Flammable handles or parts should be removable. RePan provides their coating service at a price starting from CHF 59. The cost may vary depending on the size or shape of the utensil.
The price for already recoated pans depends on the brand and type, typically ranging from CHF 39 to CHF 99. Opting for a recoating rather than purchasing a new utensil of a higher price bracket, potentially up to CHF 300, is not only financially beneficial but also more environmentally friendly. Customers can send their old pans to RePan for refurbishing.
Although the postage cost is on the customer, it eliminates the need to dispose of the pans, and it allows RePan to recoat more pans. The address for sending the pans is provided on the website. RePan assures that, after recoating, the pans retain their induction capability.
Customers can test this by using a magnet on the bottom of the pan. Although manufacturers claim that their coated pans are dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended to prolong the lifespan of the coating. The alkaline environment in dishwashers may deform the metal of the pan.
If a coated pan is placed in the dishwasher, it is crucial that no metal comes into contact with the interior surface to avoid damage. RePan offers a one-year warranty on their recoating service, although wear and tear depend on individual usage. Customers can contact RePan if there are any manufacturing defects.
The new coating applied by RePan consists of three layers: a primer for better adhesion, a hardening middle layer, and an anti-stick coating made of PTFE (commonly known as Teflon). Each pan is coated with the appropriate composition tailored to the specific piece, ensuring a consistent and reliable coating. Contrary to popular belief, PTFE (Teflon) is not toxic.
The misconception arose from the harmful production materials used in the past, which were released into the environment. When used at normal cooking temperatures, numerous studies have shown no adverse effects on the body, even with abrasion and direct ingestion of small amounts of the coating. However, overheating the pans above 300°C can result in the release of toxic gases, causing fever.
It is important to note that cooking with ordinary table salt (NaCl) produces even more toxic chlorine gases. Therefore, as long as you use the pans within the recommended temperature range, there is no cause for concern. RePan is committed to providing the best anti-stick coating available.
While uncoated stainless steel or cast iron utensils can be alternatives, they require specific cooking techniques. To stay up-to-date with the latest news and offers from RePan, customers can subscribe to their mailing list on the website
