RescateAnimal ZooAve is a registered non-profit wildlife rehabilitation facility located in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Founded in 1989, our mission is to protect and restore the country's biodiversity through various initiatives. We have three main centers on our 34-acre facility: a state-of-the-art Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, an Endangered Wildlife Breeding Center, and a Lifetime Animal Sanctuary.

Every year, we admit over 2,700 wild animals for rehabilitation, including sloths, jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, pumas, and various birds, mammals, and reptiles. While some of these animals are released back into their natural habitats, around 800 cannot be released due to health or behavioral reasons. These non-releasable endangered species have the opportunity to contribute to the survival of their species through breeding and release in our Endangered Wildlife Reproduction Center.

In addition, we provide lifetime care for over 800 non-releasable wild animals in our spacious and naturalized Lifetime Care Sanctuary. Our sanctuary is open to the public, allowing visitors to learn about wildlife conservation and issues. We are proud to be one of two GFAS-accredited sanctuaries in the country, ensuring that we meet comprehensive standards for responsible and ethical care.
