About CORENA - Réserve Naturelle Communautaire du Boundou
The Réserve Naturelle Communautaire du Boundou, established in 2009 through a collaboration between the Isère department and the former regional council of Tambacounda, covers 120,000 hectares in the heart of Eastern Senegal, just 70 kilometers from the Mali border. This area is a unique blend of local communities, wildlife, livestock, and transhumant herds, all coexisting with various challenges. To address these issues, the CORENA conservation organization was formed to focus on preserving ecosystems, enhancing the environment, and fostering local economic growth.
The rise of ecotourism within the reserve has contributed to economic development for local populations. Accommodation facilities have been set up across the reserve, offering visitors a comfortable stay. Guided by local eco-guides, tourists can embark on diverse experiences such as hiking, exploring wildlife and flora, and immersing in cultural tours.
