About Resilience Challenge
Resilience to Nature’s Challenges | Kia manawaroa - Ngā Ākina o Te Ao Tūroa is a National Science Challenge dedicated to accelerating Aotearoa New Zealand's resilience to natural hazards. Our diverse team of researchers and partners work collaboratively to deepen our knowledge of natural hazards and create new tools to build our resilience. We bring together physical science, mātauranga Māori, social science, and engineering research to develop policies and tools that reduce the social and economic impacts of future natural hazard events.
Our focus areas include understanding hazards and risks such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, coastal hazards, weather, and wildfires. We also prioritize accelerating resilience in rural and urban communities, built environments, and promoting resilience through policy and governance.
