ResponsibleSteel™

ResponsibleSteel is a global not-for-profit organisation working to maximise steel’s contribution to a sustainable world. It brings together businesses, NGOs, trade associations and other organisations across the steel value chain to advance responsible production, lower emissions and a just transition for workers and communities. Its central offering is an independent standards and certification programme, developed collaboratively with members and informed by the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice.

The programme includes a production standard, certification services and public information on certified sites, issued certificates and ongoing audits. ResponsibleSteel also supports work on greenhouse gas emissions accounting and classification, emissions data, steel scrap, decarbonisation and innovation. Through membership, organisations can participate in shaping standards and building shared approaches to sustainability.

The network reports more than 160 members and over 90 certified sites worldwide, with certification covering more than 260,000 workers. By connecting industry and civil society around common expectations, ResponsibleSteel aims to help transform steelmaking and support the development of responsibly produced, low-emission and near-zero steel
