Rete Tos.Ca.Na. is a Tuscany-based initiative focused on protecting and enhancing natural areas by recognizing the value of ecosystem services. Created as a project of Cooperativa di Comunità Ecosistema comunale di Castell’Azzara, it supports responses to challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need to reduce environmental impacts. Its work also reflects the European Green Deal and the goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
The network offers services in natural capital management and the development of ecosystem services. Its activities include helping establish Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) and environmental compensation systems, supporting pathways toward carbon neutrality, and providing European project-design services connected with the New Green Deal. It also helps communities create energy communities. Through these areas of work, Rete Tos.Ca.Na. aims to encourage the sustainable management and safeguarding of natural landscapes while helping businesses and local communities address environmental priorities. The project was supported by the Tuscany Region through the POR FESR Toscana 2014–2020 programme, under a measure supporting community cooperatives.
