Retro Coachbuilders is an Italian boutique coachbuilder bringing traditional bespoke craftsmanship into the modern era. Its team brings together 12 specialist ateliers and machine shops across Italy, combining expertise in automotive design, engineering and manufacturing. The company says its craftspeople have more than 60 years of coachbuilding experience, including backgrounds with major Italian sports-car makers and historic coachbuilding houses.
Retro Coachbuilders designs and builds one-off automobiles, concept cars and recreations of rare or iconic vehicles. Its services range from restoration and exact, nut-and-bolt reproductions to entirely original designs, with projects covering chassis, sculpted bodywork, engines and transmissions. Clients can specify traditional internal-combustion powertrains, as well as hybrid or fully electric options. The team uses hand-forming skills alongside CAD, engineering analysis and CNC machining to develop and construct each vehicle.
Projects begin with a client consultation and bespoke specification, followed by planning, design and engineering, then handcrafted construction. The company states that coachbuilding typically takes 12 to 18 months, with type-approval homologation included in the process.
