Retropajzs

Retropajzs Association is a Hungarian patient-activist community working to improve the lives and social acceptance of people living with HIV. Since 2020, it has focused on challenging stigma and discrimination, protecting the rights of affected people, and supporting their physical, emotional and mental well-being. The association welcomes people living with HIV across ages, backgrounds and sexual orientations, as well as supporters and volunteers.

Its work combines advocacy, education and peer support. Retropajzs shares information about HIV, testing, prevention, treatment and healthcare, and provides practical online resources, including directories of screening locations and care services, legal assistance information, and links to psychological support. A weekday HIV hotline offers a welcoming point of contact for people affected by HIV, those seeking information, people newly diagnosed and their relatives. The association also encourages community connection through events and activities, and invites members and volunteers to contribute professional skills or support its projects. By promoting accurate information and open discussion, Retropajzs aims to reduce prejudice and help ensure that HIV does not define a person’s life.
