About Revival Seeds
Revival Seeds is a family-owned brand that dates back to the early 1900s when Iwan and Anna Guryn immigrated from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to Canada with just fifteen dollars and a trunk of assorted seeds. They were drawn to the prairies by the promise of free land grants. Starting in 1905, they broke land and planted their first crops in Manitoba. It was on their original homestead that Katie Guryn married Dmytro Byrka in 1925, and together, they established a market garden business known for its superior quality heirloom vegetables and seeds.
Over the years, this tradition of seed-saving and cultivation continued within the Byrka family, and today, the 4th and 5th generations of Byrka seed savers are keeping the legacy alive. In 2017, Ken and Kathy Byrka, along with their daughters Rachel and Mallory, officially revived the seed-saving tradition. Located in the picturesque Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Revival Seeds is committed to providing customers with hardy heirloom, open-pollinated, and diverse seed varieties grown under organic principles. Their aim is to carry forward the heritage and tradition of the original family farm.
