Revolt

Stoat is an open-source chat app from Revolt Platforms Ltd, built for friends and communities seeking flexible communication without ads or data mining. It brings together servers, channels, voice chat, file sharing, markdown, group direct messages, and community management features, including role-based permissions, moderation tools, and bots. Group DMs support up to 50 members, and communities can grow from a small circle to thousands while using the same tools.

The app is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, iPadOS, and the web, with accounts, conversations, and settings kept in sync across devices. Users can customize their experience with built-in themes, additional options from Discover, or their own creations. Stoat also offers features such as custom emojis, animated avatars, profile banners, server-specific profile pictures, and a 20 MB file upload limit without requiring a subscription.

The service is free and open source, and users may choose hosted access or run their own server. Developers can build bots, clients, and other integrations using its public API and documentation.
