Aqua Viva is Switzerland’s water conservation organisation, working since 1960 to protect and restore the country’s rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, floodplains and marshes. Its work combines habitat conservation, biodiversity support and public education, bringing people of all ages closer to the value of healthy aquatic environments.
The organisation develops and supports practical restoration projects, including “Living Village Stream,” which helps communities revive culverted or channelled waterways through expert advice and start-up funding. Through “Water Makes School,” children and young people investigate local streams and learn about water quality, habitats and human impacts; Aqua Viva also trains teachers to lead learning outdoors. Its “Living River” initiative connects and supports regional partners working to improve biodiversity along Swiss rivers.
