RHOMBO creates magnetic building-block toys that make mathematical and geometric ideas tangible for learners of different ages. Based on a three-dimensional extension of Roger Penrose’s tiling, RHOMBO blocks come in two basic shapes, each formed as a stretched cube-like rhombohedron. Their faces are equal-sided rhombuses, and magnetic attraction allows the pieces to connect in two different ways.
The blocks are designed for hands-on exploration in classrooms and at home. They can help demonstrate three-dimensional concepts such as points, lines, planes, spatial directions, vectors, projections, symmetry, and the Golden Ratio. Each set arrives assembled into a Kepler Ball, a 30-faced rhombic triacontahedron named for astronomer Johann Kepler, who described the form in his book Harmony of the World. Users can take the ball apart and explore ways to rebuild it; the site notes that two methods are known. Multiple sets can be combined to create larger structures. RHOMBO presents its products as an educational activity that brings geometry to life through building and discovery.
