Rick Shory

Rick Shory is an independent science and fieldwork professional whose work connects research with practical, on-the-ground needs. Drawing on 15 years supporting natural resources research at Colorado State University, along with earlier experience in research and restoration for the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service, Shory now contracts with scientists to help manage data from field collection through final handoff.

His services include virtual data assistance with datasets, databases, and data clarity; science fact-checking; proofreading; and science tutoring. He also offers help and workshops related to fruit tree grafting. For field researchers, Shory invented and sells ultralight vegetation quadrats, with direct email ordering available for individuals and agencies using purchase orders. His Greenloggers are compact field data loggers designed to collect spectral data from plants; equipment may be available to borrow for field testing.

The site also features samples of Shory’s projects and practical guides, covering topics such as plant identification, tree seeds, figs, mushrooms, and archiving. Overall, Rick Shory’s work combines scientific support, useful tools, and hands-on knowledge.
