Rift Valley Energy Ltd. (RVE) is a renewable-energy infrastructure development company with a strong commitment to Eastern and Southern Africa. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Rift Valley Corporation, RVE focuses on developing, owning, and operating renewable energy projects in the region.

With 7. 4 MW of renewable generation capacity and two rural distribution networks already in operation, RVE serves a population of approximately 60,000 people and over 13,000 households in the Southern Tanzanian highlands. RVE has an ambitious project pipeline in Tanzania, including hydro and wind generation, as well as rural distribution projects at various stages of development.

In the Southern Highlands alone, RVE plans to invest in three additional hydro projects and expand its recently completed wind project, aiming for an accumulated generation capacity of about 10 MW. Through connected rural distribution networks, these projects have the potential to supply a total of 6,000 rural households with green, grid-quality electricity. To best serve its growing rural customer base, RVE has established Mwenga Power Services Ltd.

(MPS), its own rural distribution company. MPS buys electricity from RVE generation units and sells it to rural customers under the Mwenga Power brand. RVE is also committed to making a developmental impact by partnering with a UK-based NGO, Energy 4 Impact, to implement a financing program that supports local small businesses in investing in commercial electrical appliances.

Furthermore, RVE actively promotes electric cooking within its network areas to reduce deforestation and improve respiratory health for its community. With a focus on profitable and sustainable business models, RVE projects strictly revolve around local renewable energy resources. The company develops grid-connected or island mode energy solutions and adopts state-of-the-art electricity vending technologies to efficiently supply remote rural customers.

RVE works closely with local communities to meet their expectations and needs, while also assisting in developing local institutional frameworks to integrate independent power producers (IPPs) into national energy policies.
